Not Walking the Plank

Five books worth reading, just to keep me out of trouble

Jay Squires, kindly attributing to me high intelligence (although such an attribution is dangerous to my fragile modesty), challenged my humble self along with 27 other writers to either list five favorite books by our five favorite authors or — and here is where his invitation turns decidedly dark — walk the plank. Turns out he has a boat and looks very like the above picture. Well, okay, he doesn’t look that much like the above picture. His photo shows no evidence of an eye patch. But he did make pirate noises, as you can read for yourself:

He hit me with this at an awkward moment, since I have another story in the works also featuring a list of books. Avoiding duplication is something of a problem. Apparently, Jay actually does want to see someone walk the plank! But how did he know? Never mind. I’m not about to give him the pleasure of seeing me tumble into frigid December waters. Somehow, I’ll fake it...
