Interesting article. I hadn’t heard the term “discovery writer” before, but I guess I’m one of them. One of my tools for keeping stories interesting is to throw in the unexpected. I’ll toss out things that occur to me at the moment and see where they go. Sometimes they take over the story, sometimes they inject interest, sometimes they go nowhere. In revision, I clean it all up so it looks smooth (I hope!).
