I can hear my late wife laughing at the roar shock test. It's akin to one of her favorite Far Side cartoons (although that one wasn't a pun): Professor Gallagher's controversial method of treating the fear of heights, snakes, and the dark all at once.
We were both Marx Brothers fans, too. Their puns and other jokes ranged from the silly to the wickedly subtle. My wife was amused when I told her it had taken me years to realize the following from "A Night at the Opera" was a pun:
Chico: What do I tell them?
Groucho: Tell them you're not here.
Chico: What if they don't believe me?
Groucho: They'll believe you when you start taking.
