Hi Jude. That’s fine. I think Christa recommends Wordpress at Wordpress.org (with your own domain name) because it’s easy to use and provides the best feature set for those who are not technically adept.
I went a slightly different route. I’m a professional software developer and have an account through a hosting service I’ve used for several websites over the years. Some of them I built myself and some I built using packages like Wordpress and Drupal. (Word of caution: I do not recommend Drupal for most users. It’s the most powerful open source content management system out there, but it’s also the most complex, with a steep learning curve. You need to be a skilled developer to use it effectively.) When I built my author site, I registered my own domain name and installed Wordpress on my hosting service account rather than at Wordpress.org.
So there are a number of solutions, any of which can work so long as you understand them.
